Robert Griffin III suffered a ?mild? sprain of the LCL in his right knee, Mike Shanahan said Monday afternoon.
The Redskins? head coach said he isn?t sure whether Griffin will be able to practice Wednesday -- the beginning of the NFL week. But he also said he ?definitely? has not ruled the quarterback out of Sunday?s game in Cleveland.?
Shanahan said Griffin?s injury is a ?grade 1? sprain. He also said there was no damage to any other ligaments in his knee.
Griffin was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday?s 31-28 victory over the Ravens when his knee bent awkwardly ? the joint appeared to hyperextend ? as he was plastered by defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.
An MRI after the game was ?clear,? according to a team official.
If Griffin is unable to play, rookie backup Kirk Cousins will get his first career start. ?
Stay tuned for more coverage of Shanahan?s new coverage.
