If you've got a thing for midcentury engine cutaways (I know, who doesn't?), you'll want to mark your calendar for Bonhams' third annual Las Vegas motorcycle auction.
?
In addition to rare (and opaque) bikes like a 1939 BMW RS 255 Kompressor, 1902 Rambler Model B, and 1989 Norton F1 Rotary Prototype, the January 10th event will also offer mechanical displays from defunct manufacturers like HMW, NSU, and Solex, not to mention cutaways of multi-speed hubs from Sturmey-Archer and a variety of motor wheels and single-cylinder engines.
?
Though they're completely useless apart from their visual curiosity, there's something inherently cool about how these cutaways can level the financial stakes in the otherwise high-priced world of classic bike auctions. ?
