CONWAY Charlotte O?Leary scored with 3:43 remaining to bring Coastal Carolina within one, and O?Leary found the net again to tie the game but the Chanticleers womens lacrosse team couldn?t take advantage in sudden death overtime, falling to Marquette 12-11 on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles took control early in the first half with four unanswered goals. Coastal then countered with two to cut the lead in half before Marquette went on a three goal streak. Coastal then tallied one before the end of the half to cut its deficit to 7-3 at the break.
The two teams traded one goal apiece to start the second half. Coastal then found its stride on offense, stringing together four consecutive goals in a little over four minutes to even the game up at 8-8. The Golden Eagles responded by netting two of their own goals to take a 10-8 lead with 5:09 remaining in the second half.
Marquette led Coastal in shots (32-21), ground balls (28-23) and turnovers (24-32), but the Chants took the edge in draw controls (15-11) and converted five of their seven free position shots, while Marquette went 0-4 from the eight meter fan.
Coastal was led offensively by O?Leary and Keri White, both of whom had three goals.

Paige Goldsack drove in Coastal?s lone run on an RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning. With the tying run at the plate, USF brought on star lefthander Sara Nevins in relief and she recorded a strikeout and a foul out to prevent the Chanticleers from cutting the deficit further.
