We've recently heard rumors?that Amazon's developing a smartphone, but now there's a report that's taking things further?? by revealing that the device is expected to?go into?production?"late this year or early next year."
The detail comes to us via?the Wall Street Journal's Lorraine Luk, who spoke to "officials at some of Amazon's parts?suppliers."
Another source ??who also?declined to be named ??told Luk that the device's Amazon's testing right now have displays measuring between four and five inches.
These vague details add weight to a prior report, by Bloomberg, which claimed that "two people with knowledge of the matter said" that Amazon's working with manufacturer Foxconn ? who, you may recall, also has an extensive relationship with Apple ? on developing a smartphone.?
That report also suggested that?Amazon is "acquiring patents that cover wireless technology and would help it defend against allegations of infringement."?(A wise move, considering?the drama between Apple and Samsung.)
