Bellator MMA set a promotional record this past Saturday as Bellator 106 drew an average of 1.1 million viewers for Bellator 106. The numbers make the card their most-viewed billing on Spike TV and ever. Spike TV officials announced the numbers earlier today.
Bellator 106 peaked at 1.4M viewers during the main event between Michael Chandler and lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. The bout saw the two men engage in a thrilling back-and-forth battle that saw Alvarez wrest the title from Chandler via a narrow split decision. The two fighter’s second epic battle will set up a third battle for sometime in 2014.
While the cable network and the promotion are thrilled with the ratings, there was one huge frustration for many fans that attempted to DVR the fight card and had the broadcast cut off in the middle of the main event. To make up for the error, Spike TV and Bellator MMA will re-air Chandler-Alvarez II ahead of the Bellator 107 broadcast this Friday via Spike TV.
